The manufacturing sector of chromed parts has very high quality requirements. In automotive sector this means that 100% of chromed parts are inspected. At the moment there are no automated systems that can detect the types of defects that appears in this types of surfaces (scratches, porosity, lack of material, etc. ). This task is done manually and unitarily by human operator with the problems associated as the harsh working conditions, quantification, production monitoring and subjectivity in the analysis of the defect.
From conversation with customers (chromed part manufacture) around 3% of defects are not detected by operators and there are pieces that are not bidden because of the cost of manual inspection.
